Determining the Immune Response in Ethnic minority healthcare workers to COVID-19 infecTion
PI – Manish Pareek
Study Start- March 2021
This study to help us understand if, how, and why, ethnicity affects the immune response to COVID-19 infection and vaccination in those working in healthcare settings. This research is part of a larger project called “UK-REACH: United Kingdom Research Study into Ethnicity and COVID-19 outcomes in Healthcare workers”.
Previous research has found that healthcare workers and those from ethnic minority groups are at high risk of COVID-19 infection and may be at higher risk of severe disease than their white colleagues. We know that immune responses are key to the outcome of COVID-19 infection and vaccination. DIRECT aims to determine whether there are differences in immune responses to COVID-19 infection and vaccination between ethnic groups in order to understand whether these differences may contribute to the observed differences in infection risk and COVID-19 outcome in different ethnic groups.
Participants who are interested, will be asked to complete a consent form online, register with your contact details, complete online questionnaires, and will do some blood tests. They will be invited to do some more blood tests in 6 months after recruitment
