In July we welcomed Delores Kannas (pictured above third from the right), a visiting nurse from Seattle Washington, who was taking part in the training exchange programme.
The Leicester CRF team laid out a warm welcome for the latest participant in the UKCRF’s international visitors programme. They played host to Dolores Kannas, a clinical research nurse in the Thoracic, Head and Neck Clinic at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington, who requested to spend time observing staff within the Research Space- based at University Hospitals of Leicester.
Dolores spent 2 days based in the CRF Research Space, shadowing staff and receiving training presentations on UK nursing and research facility practices. She also spent two days at the UK CRF conference, which was held in Nottingham this year on 6 and 7 July. The team also laid on an Independence Day lunch to provide their visitor with some home comforts.
In return Delores gave the team a presentation on the work she does in Seattle and her career and aspirations which allowed the team some insight into the similarities and differences between the US and UK systems.
The CRF’s Training and Development Lead Rachael Phillips said: “It has been fantastic having Delores with us we all had great interest in all she taught us and a greater depth of understanding of the similarities and differences in our two countries approach to research.
“We will all keep in touch and share ideas for the future.”
